About Ruben Mendoza
Professor Ruben G. Mendoza, PhD, is an archaeologist, author, photographer, professor emeritus, and former chair of the School of Social, Behavioral & Global Studies at CSUMB.
Mendoza's archaeological studies and community service-learning projects include his role as principal investigator on four California missions and the Spanish Royal Presidio of Monterey, where excavations resulted in the discovery of the Serra Chapel of 1770-72. He recently partnered with the US Military to identify and recover the original Serra Chapel identified with Mission San Antonio de Padua.
He is the author and co-editor of several prominent books, including The California Mission Source Book, a mainstay for teachers guiding California mission tours.
