Volunteer to Clean Up on National River Cleanup Day
This event has already passed
Did you know? Plastic is now the most common element that is found in the ocean. Plastic is bad news for the environment: it does not break down, and it can be deadly when mistaken for food by various marine animals, including sea lions, sea turtles, birds and fish. Plastic gets into all of our creeks and rivers that run through Santa Clara County and connect to San Francisco Bay - which leads straight into the Pacific Ocean.
Last year, volunteers from all over Santa Clara County came together and picked up more than 50,000 lbs. of trash from local creeks. That weight is equivalent to 20 Honda Civics!
Come out on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9:00 AM to noon for the 25th Annual National River Cleanup Day. Make sure to tell your neighbors, friends and family. We will supply all the necessary materials for cleanup (gloves, trash bags, etc.), all you need to do is show up. Make sure to wear long pants and boots or sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
There are currently 48 cleanup sites to pick from throughout Santa Clara County. To find a cleanup site near you, click on the link below and do your part to help keep trash out of our local creeks and rivers. For anyone under age 18, make sure to check for the printable waiver on the registration site. http://www.cleanacreek.org/ #NRCD2016
