Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Mural at Monterey Conference Center
This event has already passed
The City of Monterey presents a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 29 at 2pm to celebrate the re-installation of Guillermo Wagner Granizio's beautiful mural on the side of the Monterey Conference Center. We'll meet at the corner of Pacific Street and Del Monte Avenue.
Guillermo Wagner Granizo’s 11 by 45 foot Monterey Mural was commissioned in 1984 for the Monterey Conference Center. 663 tiles depict 150 scenes from Monterey’s history, showcasing Monterey’s panorama of history with Granizo’s great sense of humor. It had been in storage and restored during the Conference Center renovation. Come join the community as we celebrate the return of this iconic mosaic.
In his artwork, Granizo devoted all of his energies to the rendering of ceramic tile murals and mosaics with special attention to the creatives uses of color glazes. In the late 70s he began an extraordinary career transformation as a ceramic tile muralist, historian, and fine artist. Many of his works are on public display in many cities in California, the U.S., and the world.
