History Happy Hour: New Almaden Mine
This event has been canceled.
Please join the Campbell Museums on Friday, May 15 from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm as we welcome Geologist Mike Cox for our History Happy Hour. Mr. Cox will lead an informative and entertaining discussion on the summary of the geology and history of two cousins: Minas Almadén, Spain and Minas Nueva Almadén, California
Mike Cox has a B.S. degree in geology and an MS degree in supply chain management. He has been obsessed with the New Almadén mines since he moved to California in 1974. Mike is a founding Board member of the New Almadén Quicksilver County Park Association. Mike has a lifetime of happy hours immersed in explorations of mercury mines and mining technology and history, both above and below ground. In October 2019, Mike made a fact-finding visit to the fabulous ancient mines of Almadén, Spain, one of the oldest documented and longest-running mercury mines in the world. In the talk today, Mike will share some of the histories of the two sisters, one very old and wise and one a great deal younger and a brash upstart.
