This event has already passed
Recycle Book Club is pleased to welcome local author and inspirational speaker, Marty A. Brounstein, to our book club meeting in May. He will be coming to sign autographs and discuss his nonfiction book, Two Among the Righteous Few, telling the story of a brave couple whose acts during the Holocaust saved at least two dozen Jews.
The book club will meet for half an hour for group discussion at 6:30pm before being joined by the author at 7pm for a talk and book signing session.
Please note: Due to the expected size of the audience, this event will take place down the street in the community room of The Sports Basement at 1875 Bascom Ave. in the Pruneyard Shopping Center, but copies of Two Among the Righteous Few can be purchased anytime at Recycle Bookstore in Downtown Campbell.
About The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell
Can hope be found amidst tragedy? Nestled in the hills on the western side of Jerusalem is a museum called Yad Vashem. There, people from around the world visit daily to learn about the tragic period of history from 1933 to 1945 known as the Holocaust. The museum serves as an education, research, and historical center in remembrance of the six million Jews across Europe who were murdered at the hands of the Nazi Party machine led by Adolf Hitler. A special section of Yad Vashem is dedicated to those who carried out acts of courage to save the lives of Jews during the Holocaust. Remembered there is a couple from Dieden of the Netherlands, Frans and Mien Wijnakker. Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust is the remarkable tale of how Frans and his wife, Mien, saved the lives of at least two dozen Jews in southern Holland during World War II. They were Catholics who led a simple life in a small town, but they took risks and displayed bravery to help others in dire need, instilling hope during one of the most horrific points of history.
About the Recycle Book Club
Recycle Book Club meets once a month (sometimes twice) here at Recycle Bookstore to discuss a book-of-the-month, like all book clubs do. The difference is that the author actually comes to the store! After the members have met for 30 minutes (6:30-7:00), the author joins us to answer questions and sign books (7:00-8:00). There are NO requirements to participate. In fact, you don’t even have to read the book!
