History at Home: The History of the California Gold Rush
EUREKA!
In 1848 James W. Marshall discovered gold on the South Fork of the American River. It was one of the most significant discoveries in history. It led to the most significant mass emigration of people in the Western Hemisphere. And, it was the catalyst that launched the rapid and remarkable growth of the West.
On Friday, June 18, we will discover the history of the California Gold Rush with Marshall Gold State Park historian Jerrie Beard. Mr. Beard will present the discovery of gold by James Marshall. He will discuss the events leading up to the discovery, the history of the California Gold Rush, and the town of Coloma.
