Fans of outdoor parklets in Downtown Campbell, we have some good news and bad news. We'll give you the bad news first. The current temporary parklets program is scheduled to end at the end of March and the current parklets will be removed between March 28th and 31st.
Now for the good news. The temporary parklets will be replaced with a Semi-Permanent Parklet Program featuring approved parklet designs that will be more aesthetically pleasing and consistent with the personality of Downtown Campbell. Each parklet will come at a significant cost to build, so we don't know how many parklets will remain when all is said and done. It's possible that some businesses will opt to give up their currently granted temporary parklet space when the program ends.
Fortunately, the costs will be partially offset by a grant the City of Campbell created from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, but because there is grant money involved, certain procedural steps will need to be followed. For that reason, we can't say for sure when the semi-permanent parklets will be completed after the temporary ones are removed at the end of March.
Needless to say, we're hoping for as short of a disruption as possible. The parklet designs look great! There are two approved designs that each business can choose from. There's the "Water Tower" parklet with rounded edges or an "Orchard" parklet with a more squared look. Both designs can be built with or without an optional roof.
