Love trees? Looking for a way to make San Jose cooler, healthier, and more beautiful?
The Tree Amigo class is a free 20-hour course designed to educate and empower individuals to become successful advocates of the Urban Forest and Urban Ecology and to utilize Our City Forest as vehicle for regular and active service in the San Jose community.
Learn: How to properly plant a tree, how to maintain and care for planted trees, how to raise trees in a nursery, how to identify the common trees of San Jose, and how to educate others about Urban Forestry.
Gain: The positive, enthusiastic, environmentally-minded community of Our City Forest! Ongoing classes, training, and community events. Opportunities to plant trees in parks, schools, and neighborhoods throughout San Jose, to provide maintenance to trees throughout San Jose, to help run our tree nursery, to participate in fun events and festivals as advocates for the Urban Forest, to teach Urban Forestry to elementary school classes, and to create your own service!
To become a Tree Amigo, one must be at least 16 years old (with parental permission if under 18), commit to volunteering with us for one year, and complete at least 7 our of the 8 sessions. We offer three to four courses per year.
